Best web hosting in Egypt 2026 guide comparing shared, WordPress, cloud and VPS hosting and .com vs .com.eg domains

Quick answer

The best web hosting in Egypt for most business websites is a LiteSpeed or NGINX-based WordPress or cloud plan with a data centre in Europe (Frankfurt, France, the Netherlands or London), daily off-site backups and a renewal price you have checked before paying. Online stores and learning platforms usually outgrow shared hosting and need a managed VPS or cloud server. Register your domain in your own name: a .com takes minutes with no documents, while a .com.eg is registered through the official .eg registry (domain.eg) with a commercial register or tax card.

Choosing web hosting in Egypt looks simple until the first renewal invoice arrives, or until your site slows down every evening at peak time. Hosting and the domain decide how fast pages load for visitors in Cairo and Alexandria, whether your data is backed up, who owns your online identity, and what you really pay in year two and three.

I build WordPress sites and manage servers for businesses, and I keep seeing the same mistakes: a four-year plan bought without reading the renewal price, a US server for an Egyptian audience, no off-site backups, and a domain registered in a freelancer's account. This guide covers hosting types, what matters for Egyptian websites, how the popular options compare, how to register a .com or .com.eg domain, and how to move hosting safely.

Web hosting types explained: shared, WordPress, cloud, VPS and dedicated

All hosting keeps your website files and database on an always-online server. The differences are how much of the server is yours, who manages it, and how easily it grows.

Shared hosting

Your site shares one server's CPU, memory and disk with many other customers. It is the cheapest option and fine for a landing page, portfolio or small company site. The trade-offs are strict limits and "noisy neighbours" that can slow your site down.

WordPress hosting

Usually shared or cloud hosting that is tuned for WordPress: one-click installation, server-level caching, staging copies, automatic core updates and WordPress-aware support. For most business sites built on WordPress this is the sensible default.

Cloud hosting

A larger, more guaranteed slice of CPU and RAM, with one-click upgrades. It suits growing company sites, smaller stores and sites with traffic spikes from ads or social media.

VPS (virtual private server)

A VPS gives you dedicated resources and full root access. You, or the person you hire, are responsible for the operating system, web server, PHP, firewall, security updates and backups. For WooCommerce stores, e-learning platforms and agencies hosting several sites, a well-managed VPS is often the best value. Managed cloud platforms such as Cloudways sit in between: you get your own server, while the platform maintains the server stack for you.

Dedicated server

A whole physical machine for one customer: for large portals, heavy platforms or special compliance needs.

What matters when choosing the best web hosting in Egypt

1. Server location and latency

The further away the server is, the longer visitors wait before anything appears. None of the global hosts compared in this guide lists a data centre in Egypt, so the practical choice for an Egyptian audience is usually Europe. Hostinger lists web and cloud hosting data centres in France, Germany, Lithuania, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom (alongside the USA, Brazil and Asia), and you choose the location during setup. SiteGround runs on Google Cloud and lists European locations in Frankfurt, the Netherlands, London and Madrid.

My rule of thumb: Egyptian audience, choose a European data centre such as Frankfurt, France or the Netherlands; Gulf audience, choose the closest region your provider offers; mixed or international audience, choose Europe and put a CDN in front. Do not accept a default US location just because it appeared first in the checkout. After launch, you can check response time and other basics with my free website checker.

2. Web server, NVMe storage and PHP version

LiteSpeed (with the LiteSpeed Cache plugin) or a well-configured NGINX stack, NVMe disks and a current PHP 8.x version make a visible difference for WordPress. Server speed is only one layer, though. Images, caching, fonts and scripts matter just as much, as I explain in my WordPress speed optimization guide.

3. Backups you can actually restore

Ask three questions: how often are backups taken, how long are they kept, and are they stored off the server? SiteGround, for example, states daily automated off-site backups kept for 30 days on its shared plans, while Hostinger's entry Premium plan lists weekly backups and its higher plans daily backups. Whatever the host promises, keep your own independent copy as well and test a restore at least once.

4. Support that understands your problem

24/7 chat is common now. What matters is whether support can read an error log, raise a PHP limit or find the plugin eating the CPU. Test them with a technical question first.

5. The renewal price trap

The headline price is almost always an introductory price that requires paying for one to four years upfront. When the term ends, the plan renews at the regular rate, which can be three to six times higher. Compare the total over three years, not the first month.

6. Real limits behind "unlimited"

"Unlimited" plans still have fair-use limits on CPU, RAM, files (inodes) and processes, and a store or course platform hits them long before the disk is full.

Hostinger vs SiteGround vs Namecheap vs Cloudways vs Egyptian hosts

These are the names I hear most from Egyptian business owners. Prices are what I saw on each provider's official pages in October 2026, in US dollars before tax; treat them as a snapshot.

Before you pay: I keep a page of current public discount codes for Hostinger and Namecheap on my hosting and domain coupons tool. Compare the coupon price with the renewal price, and remember that the cheapest first year is rarely the cheapest three years.

Which one would I pick?

  • Small company site or landing page: a WordPress or cloud plan from a mainstream host with a European data centre.
  • WooCommerce store or e-learning platform: a managed cloud server or a VPS that someone actually maintains. A real store such as my HardSat case study (a satellite receivers store with its own admin system) needs far more than an entry shared plan.
  • Several client sites: a VPS with a control panel, proper isolation between sites and off-site backups.

Paying for hosting from Egypt: EGP or USD?

Most international hosts bill in US dollars, which creates two practical issues for Egyptian businesses: card limits and the exchange rate.

  • Card limits: Egyptian banks set separate limits for card spending in foreign currency, and they differ by bank and card tier. Confirm your limit and enable online and international purchases before checkout.
  • Local billing: Hostinger's support pages state that its Egypt site bills in Egyptian pounds and accepts Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Fawry.
  • Exchange rate: prepaying several years locks the dollar price, but only buy a long term from a host you have already tested.
  • Ownership: pay from an account in the company's name and keep the invoices. Avoid "hosting" bought through a middleman where you never receive the login.

Hosting is only one line of the yearly budget. To see the full picture with design, development and running costs, read my guide to website cost in Egypt or try the website cost calculator.

How to buy a domain in Egypt: .com vs .eg and .com.eg

Registering a .com

A .com is registered in minutes from any accredited registrar, with no documents, for roughly EGP 450–1,100 a year depending on the registrar and exchange rate. Check the renewal price, register it in the business's own account, and turn on auto-renew, the registrar lock and two-factor authentication.

Registering .eg, .com.eg and other Egyptian domains

Egyptian domains are issued by the official .eg registry at domain.eg, which operates under Egypt's Supreme Council of Universities. According to its published requirements (checked October 2026):

  • .com.eg, .net.eg and .info.eg for companies in Egypt: a commercial register or tax card, plus a copy of the ID of the company owner or the person authorised to manage the domain.
  • Foreign companies: a certificate of incorporation, a trademark registered in Egypt or internationally through WIPO under the Madrid system, and a representative or agent in Egypt.
  • .org.eg: the decision establishing the association or organisation. Educational (.edu.eg, .ac.eg) and government (.gov.eg) domains have their own official documents.
  • Term: registration is first come, first served for complete applications, for one to five years.
DomainWho it is forOfficial starting price per year (Oct 2026)

.egAll entitiesEGP 3,605
.me.eg, .name.egIndividualsEGP 845 (50% off the first year for new registrations)
.edu.eg, .ac.egEducational and academic bodiesEGP 12,005
.com.eg for foreign companiesEntities outside EgyptUSD 361

The registry also lists discounts of 10% for three years and 20% for five years on most categories. You can apply through one of the accredited companies listed on domain.eg, or download the application form and email it to the registry.

Which domain should you choose?

For most businesses I recommend owning both: the .com as the main brand domain (easy to remember and accepted everywhere) and the .com.eg to signal a registered Egyptian company and protect the name locally. Point one to the other with a 301 redirect so you do not split your SEO.

Free SSL and business email

Do not pay extra for a basic SSL certificate in 2026: every host in the table includes free SSL, usually from Let's Encrypt with automatic renewal. After enabling it, force HTTPS and fix any mixed-content warnings.

Hosting mailboxes are fine for a few addresses, but they are tied to the web server: if it is blacklisted or overloaded, your email suffers too. Note that Hostinger's included mailboxes are free for the first year only, and Cloudways sells email as a paid add-on. For a company that lives on email, a dedicated service such as Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 is usually worth it. Whatever you choose, configure SPF, DKIM and DMARC records so your messages do not land in spam.

How to move your website to a new host without downtime

  1. Take a full backup. Files, database, DNS records and email settings.
  2. Prepare the new server. Match the PHP version and limits, create the database, and choose the right data centre.
  3. Copy the site. Use a migration plugin or move files and database manually.
  4. Test before switching. Preview the site on the new server through a temporary URL or your local hosts file. Check forms, checkout, logins and admin.
  5. Lower the DNS TTL. A day before the move, lower the TTL so the change propagates quickly.
  6. Switch DNS. Update the A record or nameservers, issue SSL on the new server and re-check MX, SPF and DKIM records so email keeps working.
  7. Keep the old host for one to two weeks. Cancel only after you confirm orders, emails and backups all work on the new server.

Stores and LMS platforms: freeze new orders or enrolments during the final sync, or you can lose transactions made on the old server after your last copy.

Web hosting and domain checklist before you pay

  • The hosting type matches the project: shared or WordPress for small sites, cloud or VPS for stores and platforms.
  • The data centre is in Europe or close to your main audience, not a default US location.
  • You have read the renewal price and calculated the total for three years.
  • Backups are daily, kept off the server, and you know how to restore them.
  • Free SSL, a current PHP 8.x version and server-level caching are included.
  • The domain and hosting accounts are in the business's name, with two-factor authentication.
  • Email is planned separately, with SPF, DKIM and DMARC.
  • Someone is responsible for updates, security and monitoring after launch. My WordPress security checklist covers the essentials.

Key takeaways

  • Match the hosting type to the project: shared or WordPress hosting for small sites, cloud or a managed VPS for WooCommerce stores, LMS platforms and busy sites.
  • Server location matters for speed: none of the big hosts in this guide lists a data centre in Egypt, so for an Egyptian audience choose Europe (Frankfurt, France, the Netherlands or London) and add a CDN.
  • Always read the renewal price: in October 2026 Hostinger Premium was USD 2.99/month on a 48-month prepaid term but renews at USD 10.99, and SiteGround StartUp was USD 2.99 renewing at USD 17.99.
  • A .com.eg domain starts from EGP 845 a year at the official registry and needs a commercial register or tax card plus an ID copy; a .com needs no documents.
  • Free SSL is standard today. Pay instead for what protects you: tested backups, monitoring, security hardening and real support.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best web hosting in Egypt for a small business website?

For most small business sites, a WordPress or cloud hosting plan from a mainstream host with a European data centre (Frankfurt, France, the Netherlands or London), LiteSpeed or NGINX caching, free SSL and daily off-site backups is the best balance of speed and cost. Check the renewal price before you pay.

Is there web hosting with servers inside Egypt?

Egypt has local data centres and some local hosting companies, but none of the large global hosts compared in this guide lists a data centre in Egypt. For an Egyptian audience, a European data centre plus a CDN usually gives good speed. If you buy from a local host, ask where the servers physically are.

Can I pay for hosting in Egyptian pounds?

Some providers allow it. In October 2026 Hostinger's support pages stated that its Egypt site bills in EGP and accepts cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Fawry. Most other international hosts bill in US dollars, so check your bank card's foreign-currency limit first.

How do I register a .com.eg domain?

Apply through an accredited company listed on domain.eg or email the official application form to the registry. A company in Egypt needs a commercial register or tax card and a copy of the owner's or authorised person's ID. The official starting price was EGP 845 per year in October 2026.

Do I need a VPS for a WooCommerce store?

A small store can start on good cloud or WordPress hosting, but once you have many products, daily orders, or an e-learning platform with many students, a managed VPS or cloud server gives you dedicated resources and better stability. It must be properly maintained, secured and backed up.
